Description 12ga to 40 S&W Shotgun Adapters 12ga to 40 S&W Shotgun Adapters Allow a 12 gauge Break Action Shotgun to use 40 Smith & Wesson Ammo. Compatible with 12 gauge Break Action single and also double barrel shotgun. Comes with multiple O-ring configurations.  As a result,  easily achieving a good fit for 12 gauge shotguns. Rifle dimensions are .390″/.400″ with 6 grooves and .120″ wide with a 1:14 twist rate. Black Oxide coating as a result provides notably better corrosion protection (for maximum corrosion protection keep a thin coat of oil on the insert) Warning:   Not all shotguns are the same!  While the majority of them are capable of handling high pressure rounds, some are NOT.  Only use these rounds in shotguns that are compatible.  I recommend on any shotgun to test the first shot in a vice while out of harm’s way and to always wear eye and ear protection.  If after testing, you see the primer punctured in the round discontinue using this round and use a less powerful round. Some of these high-pressure rounds include: 45-70 gov, 357 Mag, Max, Sig, 327 Federal, 44 Mag, 9×23 Largo, 300 Blackout, 7.62×39, 7.62×25, 30-30 Win, 35 Remington, 10mm 40s&w 22 Hornet and 400 Legend.  Please always be safe and aware. FPS (Feet Per Second) As a general rule, the longer the adapter, the more FPS it produces. However, with low-pressure rounds such as the 45 colt, the fps difference is minimal.
